Health services researcher Professor Natalie Armstrong will take up the new role in January 2025

Professor Natalie Armstrong has been appointed incoming Executive Dean of the School of Health and Medical Sciences at City St George’s, University of London.

Professor Armstrong is a distinguished health services researcher whose work uses ideas and methods from the social sciences to better understand, and seek to address, problems in the delivery of high-quality healthcare.

Professor Armstrong is currently the Deputy Head of the College of Life Sciences at the University of Leicester and has substantial leadership experience. The College of Life Sciences includes the Leicester Medical School and Schools of Biological Sciences, Healthcare and Psychology & Vision Sciences. Professor Armstrong is also the University appointed Non-Executive Director to the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Group.

The appointment follows the completion of the merger between City, University of London and St George’s, University of London, creating a powerful multi-faculty institution with a distinctive focus on professional education and research at the frontier of practice.

City St George’s, University of London is now one of the largest higher education destinations for London students and one of the most significant suppliers of the health workforce in the capital. Our expanded School of Health and Medical Sciences will play a central role in shaping the strategic health workforce through integrated professional education and translation-oriented research programmes.

Professor Armstrong commented:

I am delighted to be joining City St George’s at such an exciting time and feel very privileged to have the opportunity to lead the expanded School of Health and Medical Sciences. I am very much looking forward to working with colleagues across both the School and the wider institution, and with a wide range of important stakeholder organisations.

She will bring a collegiate and focused approach to developing the unified School and has experience of maintaining strategic and operational relationships with key stakeholders, most notably our highly valued partner NHS Trusts.

Professor Armstrong’s record of academic achievement, research excellence, partnership working and leadership experience, ensure she is very well qualified to serve as the inaugural Executive Dean.
