By City Press Office (City Press Office), Published

The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025 has ranked City as the 49th best university in the UK and 8th in London.

Our improved performance on the Student Experience metric, moving up 78 places, is a key contributing factor to our progress in the overall ranking.

City, University of London has formally merged with St George’s, University of London, creating City St George’s, University of London, a powerful multi-faculty institution with a distinctive focus on professional education and research at the frontier of practice. League tables will list City and St George’s separately until spring next year when UCAS begins listing the combined University as a single institution.

St George's, University of London increased its position in this year’s ranking by 10 places to 69th in the UK and 12th in London. St George’s was also named runner up in the Specialist University of the Year 2025 category of the Guide’s Awards.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025 provides detailed online profiles for 134 universities covering research reputation to campus facilities, scholarships and bursaries, and nightlife. The ranking is based on recent data and evaluates factors including satisfaction with teaching quality and the student experience through to degree completion rates and graduate employment prospects.

Both City and St George’s have also increased their ranking in the other league tables released to mark the start of the new academic year – the Guardian University Guide 2025 and the Daily Mail University Guide 2025.

Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein, President of City St George’s, University of London, said:

There is a very simple story behind our continuing improvement in rankings. We decided, collectively, to put the student experience at the centre of our work. We are delivering it in the class, lecture by lecture, course by course, and through a consistent student-focus and flexibility on the part of all our professional services.

Helen Davies, editor of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, said:

This year we have tweaked our methodology to keep up with contemporary concerns around climate change and careers and have added in a sustainability metric, teaming up with People & Planet, and boosted the weighting of graduate prospects.

London is one of the most extraordinary cities in which to study in the world. There are 23 universities to choose from who are leading the way in so many subjects from art to robotics and everything in between.

A fully searchable website with 70 subject tables, full interactive tables and additional features is now online on The Times and The Sunday Times website.
