City St George’s named University of the Year for Graduate Jobs

Alastair McCall, editor of the Daily Mail University Guide, said:

“The union of City and St George’s as a single institution within the University of London is one of the most exciting developments in higher education in the past 20 years.

"The ambition behind the creation of City St George’s and the potential impact of these two previously high-ranking universities is immense and a key factor in City St George’s success as runner-up in our University of the Year award.

“However, judges wanted to acknowledge the universities’ existing strengths as well as potential. Both universities have enjoyed stellar success in the graduate jobs market over many years: St George’s as a key provider of staff into medicine, health and biomedical science and City, also within the NHS but more widely into the professions – business, finance, media, law, technology - and many of the businesses that ply their trades cheek by jowl to its campuses.

“City St George’s hopes to create a “health powerhouse” for students, researchers, the NHS and other partners and to rethink healthcare for the 21st century. It sets out on that quest already as a “jobs powerhouse” offering the prospect of high salaries and high-skilled jobs for the vast majority of graduates."

Daily Mail University Guide 2025

The Daily Mail University Guide launched last year and includes the first new university ranking of British universities in over 15 years.

The 12 ranking measures incorporate graduates’ success in the jobs market and the salaries they go on to earn, and the extent of student support including the effectiveness of signposting for mental health and welfare services.

The ranking also assesses the fairness of university admissions policies, measured by the proportion of first-generation students – those whose parents did not go to university - admitted to each institution.

This year’s university rankings will be the last to list City, University of London and St George's, University of London separately. This is necessary because the data used to compile the rankings is drawn from the period before the merger completed on 1^st August 2024. Both campuses have made significant strides in the last year and this is reflected in improved placements in the Daily Mail University Guide 2025:

• St George’s, University of London is ranked 12^th in the UK, up 10 places

• City, University of London is ranked 27^th, up 7 places.
