Representatives from the three institutions met at the Headquarters of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

City St George’s, University of London, British University Vietnam (BUV) and the Centre for Foreign Affairs and Languages Training (CEFALT) have announced a strategic partnership to elevate the quality of international education for a wide range of learners in Vietnam and beyond.
On 16 September, representatives from the three institutions met at the Headquarters of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement marks a new chapter in educational cooperation between the institutions.
Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli, The Lord Mayor of the City of London and the Rector of City St George’s, University of London, and Dr Sionade Robinson, the University’s Vice President of Enterprise, Engagement & Employability attended a signing ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, officially establishing the strategic agreement between the universities.
Dr Robinson said:
“We are delighted to be signing a Memorandum of Understanding with British University Vietnam, the leading British higher education institution in Vietnam, accredited by Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, and recognised as being of international standard by the Vietnamese Government.
According to the agreement, the three institutions will collaborate on several key areas from 2024-29. These include:
- Strengthening the strategic partnership between City St George’s and BUV to provide another quality education link between Vietnam and the UK
- Implementing student exchange programmes
- Establishing and offering international collaborative training opportunities
- Attracting funding for research to foster innovation and create impact
Commenting on the agreement, Professor Michael Mainelli, Lord Mayor of the City of London, and Rector of City St George’s said:
“My mayoral theme, ‘Connect to Prosper’, celebrates the ‘knowledge miles’ within the City of London as a key feature in our centuries-long success. I’m excited about how our knowledge miles and connections will extend past the Square Mile into Ho Chi Minh City.”
Following the ceremony, on Tuesday 24 September, City St George’s hosted a high-level delegation from the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
The delegation which included hospital directors and technology and innovation leaders were keen to discuss opportunities for educational collaboration.
At the end of the discussion there was an exchange of handmade gifts. The president received artwork made from rice grains, and gifted the Delegation Lead, Madame Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the HCMC People's Committee, a ceramic dish from Exmouth Market.
