Dr Julie Voce was honoured at this year’s Association for Learning Technology (ALT) Annual Conference in Manchester for her outstanding work in learning technology

The Association for Learning Technology (ALT) has awarded Dr Julie Voce, Head of Digital Education and Senior Lecturer in Educational Development at City St George’s, University of London with an Honorary Life Membership.

The professional and scholarly association awards life membership to those who have made an outstanding contribution to learning technology through research, practice, policy development and leadership.

As Head of Digital Education, Julie is responsible for overseeing key institutional projects at City St George’s in the areas of learning spaces, lecture capture, digital accessibility, digital literacies and learning analytics. As a Senior Lecturer, Julie teaches on City's MA Academic Practice on modules related to digital education, digital literacies and open practice.

Reacting to the award, a spokesperson for the ALT said: “With over 20 years of experience in the sector, Julie has become a highly respected leader with a well-earned reputation for her contributions to the advancement of learning technology.

Her influence on the sector has been profound and multifaceted and has made her a deserving recipient of Honorary Life Membership at ALT.

Julie was nominated by many members of the association. Reflecting on the important contribution she has made to the work of ALT, members who nominated Julie commented that her willingness to collaborate, to learn, to innovate and to support the growth of the sector had been truly inspirational and infectious.

Commenting on the award, Julie said:

"I am delighted to be awarded honorary life membership of ALT. And to receive the award in Manchester, where my learning technology career started, made it extra special.”

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to the ALT team and Trustees for this award, and a special thank you to my colleagues at City St George's and my ALT friends for nominating me. It was a wonderful surprise, and I am truly honoured to join such a distinguished list of life members.”

Professor Susannah Quinsee, Vice-President (Digital and Student Experience), said Dr Voce was very well respected across the higher education sector.

Julie has made a huge contribution to the educational technology community over the years and is extremely well respected across the sector, as this award demonstrates.
