Korean Beyond Beginners (full syllabus)

This 30-week online course takes you to the next stage in your beginners’ journey to help you progress in Korean.

Over the year, you will learn a wide variety of grammar and vocabulary to enhance your skills across the four principal areas: reading, writing, listening and speaking. This will allow you to hold conversations in Korean with native speakers.

The content of the programme will help you to reach A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), should you choose to take the external test.

The full syllabus is a combination of three parts. Each part runs for ten consecutive weeks at a discounted rate.

Who is it for?

The course is designed for those who have a basic knowledge of the Korean language and want to advance to the next level. Ideally, it is best suited to those who have completed City’s Korean Beginner's course or equivalent.

Timetable

The course includes 60 hours of learning and is taught across three terms, starting in October and finishing in July. Each term will consist of one evening per week (two-hour lessons) for ten consecutive weeks.

• October – December (Part 1)
• January – March (Part 2)
• April/May – July (Part 3).

You will be awarded an official City, University of London certificate on completion of the course if you attend over 70 per cent of the classes. The course is not formally accredited.

There isn’t an exam at the end of the course but depending on your ability, you can take the A1 CEFR exam through an external provider.

Teaching

Teaching is delivered online to small and intimate classes.  The lessons are interactive, hosting live group discussions and breakout rooms for one-to-one conversations.
During the course you will have access to additional learning materials online and take part in quizzes, watch videos, listen to audio clips and more.
You will be assessed throughout the course and offered support to help with areas that may need improvement.

It is the right level if you have either:

• completed our Korean Beginner's course or equivalent
• studied formally for 60 hours or more.

You should already be able to:

• greet people
• understand prices
• know the times and dates
• name a selection of items
• talk about travel experiences
• talk about leisure activities
• talk about the weather.

You will need a good level of spoken and written English to enrol on this course.
