Report on the fifth National Symposium on Developing Socially Responsible Professionals hosted by City, University of London.

By City Press Office (City Press Office), Published

The National Symposium on Developing Socially Responsible Professionals is an annual event hosted by City, University of London.

The fifth annual symposium was held on 10 January, and brought together experts and stakeholders from academia, industry, charities and government organisations to debate different aspects of developing the next generation of socially responsible professionals (SRP).

We need to develop the next generation of professionals that are aware of the impact of their decisions, the role of ethical behaviour and professional activities on society, the environment, resources and people and have working knowledge to use tools that will help them to optimise the impact.

The symposium included a series of keynote addresses and then an open debate on the issues with the audience in the afternoon.

The symposium encouraged informed discussion around:

  • Identifying common ground across professions on social responsibility and letting them share best practice.
  • Developing a skills base for SRP that future learners can use in their professional decision making, that account for evolving social needs.

Read the report on the discussions which has now been published.

On Thursday 1 August 2024, City, University of London and St George’s, University of London merged to become City St George’s, University of London. Read more about the merger agreement.
