Teach to Inspire: Showcasing good practice in higher education
There is much discussion about teaching excellence with the introduction of the TEF however the key to this is teaching that inspires. Cohen & Jurkovic (1997) identify this is the most powerful component of learning and refer to terms such as inspiration, surprise, fun and creativity whereas others have focused on the magic and capturing the imagination of students (Harden & Crosby 2000 and James 2001).
The Covid pandemic led to a swift move from face to face and blended learning to many providing all learning fully online. Whilst for some, both students and academics, this has not always been positive there have been many exciting and inspiring teaching practices as a result of this.
Even when things did not go as planned there has been good practice learnt from this and others would benefit from the sharing of these experiences.
With this in mind the overall theme for the conference this year is Teach to Inspire: Showcasing Good Practice in Higher Education.
Within this theme there are a range of sub-themes:
- Curriculum design and review
- Assessment design
- Learning and teaching approach
- Activities and strategies that support students through their programme
We anticipate that this topical theme will provide excellent opportunities for discussion and, debate during the conference.
