Spanish Lower Intermediate Part 2 Course overview
Part 2 will cover vocabulary needed for conversational topics, including shopping, vacations and narrating past events. We will also teach you how make comparisons and talk about durations of time.
You’ll join a small group of peers, practicing your skills together and working on your pronunciation. You’ll develop your reading, writing and listening skills through activities, such as role-play or making lists.
On completion of the course you may wish to join part 3 in April/May term to reach CEFR A1/A2 level of the Common European Framework Reference of language learning.
Who is it for?
Join us here if you have completed part 1 of the syllabus or studied a similar course elsewhere (at least 80 hours of formal study). You should be communicating at CEFR A1 level or have a rusty or low grade GCSE. Read more in the eligibility section.

This course takes place one evening a week at 18:30 for 10 weeks.

Assessment and certificates
Attend over 70 per cent of the classes and you will be awarded an official City, University of London certificate on completion of the course.
There is no formal assessment, but your progress will be monitored by your tutor during the course. The course is not accredited.
Teaching
We focus on real-life scenarios, using a mix of role plays, group work and ‘listicles’ (list making) to develop practical skills. We also use a digital learning platform, Moodle, where you can find lesson material in advance.
Multimedia content features in our teaching, giving you a wider insight into the culture, economics and politics of Spain and Latin America.
Eligibility
It is the right level if one of the following applies
- you can communicate at low A1 level, according to the Common European Framework Reference of languages
- you have completed part 1 of the Spanish Lower Intermediate course, or equivalent elsewhere (80 hours of formal study)
- you have a rusty or low GCSE.
You should already be able to:
- talk about things you have done (pretérito perfecto)
- talk with confidence about habits and frequency
- describe your family
- use the verb gustar
- understand how to use reflexive verbs.
English requirements
You will need a good level of spoken and written English to enrol on this course.
