Spanish Beginners (part 3)

Part 3 will build on your current knowledge of discussing your daily activities and routines. You’ll learn to discuss your weekend and other past events using regular, irregular and reflexive verbs, and be introduced to adverbs of frequency, for example, “always”, “often” and “sometimes”.

Under the guidance of our qualified and native Spanish tutors, you’ll take part in activities, exercise and games to practise everyday interactions.

Part 3 is the third and final beginners module, so that you can communicate at A1 level of the Common European Framework Reference of language learning (CEFR).

Who is it for?

Our beginners modules are taught at progressive levels. You’ll need to have studied Spanish for about 40 hours to enrol onto part 3. You may have just finished part 2 of our beginners syllabus or an equivalent course elsewhere. More information can be found in the eligibility section.

Timetable

This course takes place one evening a week at 18:30 for 10 weeks.

By the end of this course, you will be able to

Grammar

• present tense regular, irregular and reflexive verbs
• adverbs of frequency
• saber vs conocer
• introduction to the past tense (pretérito indefinido).

You will be awarded an official City, University of London certificate on completion of the course if you attend over 70 per cent of the classes. The course is not formally accredited.

Teaching

Activities during this evening course will include role-play, class discussion and pair and group work. You will also work on your pronunciation and intonation and learn about grammar in context.

You will have weekly homework so you can practise what you have learned in class.

You’ll need some basic Spanish knowledge to enrol on this course – around 40 hours of formal learning.

This course is the right level for you if you can:

• shop confidently
• talk about the city, the house, parts of the house and furniture
• discuss the time, days of the week, the months, the weather
• talk about your likes and dislikes.
• You may be familiar with demonstrative adjectives and pronouns and prepositions of place, but you are inexperienced in using them in everyday conversation.
