JavaScript and Modern Frontend Development Course overview

In this course you will learn the basics of JavaScript and what is required for you to become a Modern Frontend Developer.  We will use tools to compile the code in NodeJS, and then we will fund how to use the browser and load our JavaScript on a browser. Find out how to debug your code and solve common issues whilst running the code.

Who is it for?

An introduction to JavaScript programming and DOM scripting short course is ideal for anyone working or aspiring to work in web development. Aimed at those with basic HTML and CSS knowledge, it covers the fundamental elements of programming using JavaScript as well as tips on best practice.

Timetable

This course takes place once a week for 10 consecutive weeks.

Assessment and certificates

You will be awarded an official City, University of London certificate if you attend over 70 per cent of the classes. The course is not formally accredited.

Assessment

Informal assessment will take place through game development, group discussion, classroom activities, and question-and-answer sessions guided by your tutor.

Eligibility

You should have basic HTML and CSS knowledge.

You should have already completed our Building Websites with HTML5 and CSS3 short course or have built one or two simple web sites using basic HTML and CSS.

English requirements

Applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English.

Tutors

  • Aris Markogiannakis

    Aris Markogiannakis has been working at Senior Developer level for over ten years in the City of London and is an active organiser of meetups contributing in the JavaScript community. He has an extended background working with all the major languages such as .NET, PHP, Java and JavaScript. His formal computing credentials include two masters degrees and a first degree from the University of Sunderland. Aris also recently completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Academic Practice.

  • Toby Brodie

    Tobi Brodie has over a decade’s experience teaching computer coding and web development in London and the South East of England, lecturing at Birkbeck University and, in his spare time, running Code Clubs for kids. He has an educational background  in Computing and Information Systems and has worked in web development with various companies, from start-ups to not for profit organisations.  Over the years he has built up skills in “all things web”, with a strong knowledge of the programming languages required to design, develop, and maintain them - including HTML, CSS, PHP & JavaScript. He also  teaches core computer programming languages such as Python and Java to undergraduate level.
