Arabic Beginners (part 3)

Part 3 of our Arabic beginners course will conclude your beginners understanding of Arabic.

Taught over 10-weekly evening classes, you will build on your basic knowledge and vocabulary to talk about the weather and describe activities in the present, past and future tenses.

You’ll improve your knowledge of Arabic grammar and learn how to use the verb kana and the idafa structure.

By the end of the 10 weeks, you will be communicating at CEFR A1 of the Common European Framework Reference of language learning.

Who is it for?

Our beginners modules are taught at progressive levels -this module is ideal if you have completed part 2 of the beginners syllabus or equivalent (approximately 40 hours of prior study).

Timetable

This course takes place one evening a week at 18:30 for 10 weeks.

By the end of this course, you will be able to

• request and decline things politely
• describe activities in the present, past and future

• express contrast and reasons.

Grammar

• present tense conjugation and negation
• revisiting idafa structure
• imperative mood
• cardinal numbers 11-999
• expressing possessive using different particles
• attached pronouns suffixed to verbs
• adverbs of time
• past tense conjugation and negation
• verbal noun masder.

You will be awarded an official City, University of London certificate on completion of the course if you attend over 70 per cent of the classes. The course is not formally accredited.

Teaching

• Classroom activities during this evening course will include:
• pair and groupwork
• roleplay
• classroom discussion
• pronunciation and intonation
• grammar in context.

Your tutor will set weekly homework so you can practise and consolidate what you have learned in class.

You’ll need some basic knowledge of Arabic to enrol on this course (approximately 40 hours of formal learning).

This course is the right level for you if you can:

• identify and describe classroom surroundings and people
• elicit information and provide answers using general and unique questions tools
• express admiration
• describe family members, accommodation and study subjects
• understand basic grammar including demonstrative pronouns هذا هذه هُنا هُناك and the definite article أل .
