About
Overview
Dr. Raluca Moise is Senior Lecturer in Communications at School of Communication & Creativity, City University of London. Her past research in public relations has focused on areas such as new technologies, reputation (individual, organizational; online and classic media); public opinion and public interest. Most recent research explores uncharted subjects in PR and strategic communications.
From the institutionalisation of public relations, Raluca has conducted a field analysis and investigated how different fields of PR (such as public perceptions, scholarship and professional field) impact the teaching of PR and curricular design in the UK. Currently, Raluca is conducting a research survey in collaboration with Dr. Michal Chmiel (Royal Holloway, University of London), to better understand the various understandings of PR in Europe universities and amongst European academics.
A second area of research is the professionalisation of public relations. In collaboration with Dr. Anca Anton (University of Bucharest), Raluca has conducted a research on the discursive practices of knowledge virtual communities populated by freelance communication professionals. Some of the key findings of this research led Raluca to be a part of a wider project on 'Wellbeing in PR', as well as to open two editorial projects hosted by Emerald Publishing: an edited book on Gender and Freelancing in Communication Industries: Experiences, practices, discourses (https://www.commswomen.uk/2022/12/19/freelancers-2/ and) and a special issue on flexible working schemes in media and communication industries (https://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/calls-for-papers/flexible-working-schemes-media-and-communication-industries-journalism-public).
In communication practices, Raluca has developed both a neo-institutional approach on organisational communication (by developing a benchmarking analytical framework for social media campaigns, or analysing the modes of engagement developed by diaspora communities) and a critical analysis of promotional campaigns (developing a postcolonial reading of a movie promotional campaign).
Raluca is a member of EUPRERA and an active network member in ‘Women in PR’ and ‘Education in PR’. Prior to joining City, she worked as lecturer at University of the Arts of London and University of Bucharest, and as a practitioner in public relations, advertising and digital publishing.
