About
Overview
Michelle is a Senior Lecturer in Child Health who joined City University London in 1997. She previously worked in the NHS in Children's Nursing and Adult/General Nursing at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and St Georges Hospital.
Michelle initially worked in the NHS in a variety of staff nurse and sister's clinical nursing posts. She has studied at Surrey University where she completed her MSc in Applied professional studies in Education and Training. Her qualitative study focussed on the role of the link lecturer in clinical practice. Her BSc from Hull University was a qualitative study on the factors which affect immunisation uptake. Michelle has undertaken many roles within City University London including being a former Head of Children's Nursing, professional lead, programme director roles and has been seconded to an NHS Trust as Practice Lead for Adult and Child area.
Her main area of work has been in practice development and children's, adolescent and adult nursing. She has a particular interest in mentorship, relationship centred care, caring, patient centred practice and the health needs of children and young people. Michelle is particularly passionate about adolescent health and has been chair or lead for national adolescent groups over the years.
Michelle has undertaken research regarding young people accessing sexual health services. A small research study was undertaken in 2007 in relation to young people accessing sexual health services. This research was undertaken as part of a Research Award which enabled an exploratory study, linked to, and drawing on a larger TPU/DoH funded study of protective and risk factors related to teenage pregnancy in East London; (Jayakody et al, 2005; Sinha et al 2006).This larger mixed method study with the quantitative data collected through RELACHS, a longitudinal study on young people in East London, and the qualitative study It's My Life, collecting data through focus groups, individual interviews and an exploratory web-based method.
