Overview
Dr Fran Smith is a lecturer on the Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. She is also a practicing Counselling Psychologist. In her role in the Psychology Department Fran supervises research, leads the module on Cognitive Behavioral Approaches to Counselling Psychology and is the Senior Tutor for Research for the first and second year students on the program.
Fran has a BSc in Psychology from Birmingham University and completed her doctoral training in Counselling Psychology at City, University of London.
Fran's clinical and research interests are focused on processes of adjustment. Interests include clinical health psychology areas such as change in appearance, body image, obesity, weight loss, plastic surgery, adjustment to and experience of chronic and acute health conditions. Fran is also very interested in the theory and practical application of mindfulness skills, acceptance and commitment and compassion focused therapies. Fran has a particular interest in the use of qualitative research methods to explore lived experience and her experience is predominantly with IPA.
